Today we decided to do bungee jumping!! We got up late after going out last night with a few people we had just met. It was good that we did as it was beautiful in the afternoon! The shuttle left at 2 from outside the companies office and it took us right to the doorstep. The bungee jump is 111m from the bridge boardering Zimbabwe and Zambia. There is an amazing view of the falls from it and a magnificent gorge running underneath, with the zambezi running through it. We had a quick briefing while the operators wrapped towels around our legs which didn't seem very safe. As I was going first I stood up and waddled over to the edge of the platform and put my toes over the edge. What a rush! There were 2 guys standing behind me and they quickly counted down from 5 so I felt like I had to jump off. WOW. It was so amazing!! I fell right through a rainbow created in the spray from Victoria falls. After the first bounce up you get an amazing feeling of weightlessness. I loved it.
Luke went next so I only caught a glimpse of him as he went down. He also loved it which I was very glad about. Not quite as much as i did but he'd like to do it again as well. We went back to the office where they had filmed us and taken pictures as we went down so we bought them of course (quite expensive though)! Sadly they were on DVDs so we'll have to find a computer to put the pictures onto my laptop. We were both quite tired so we went back to the backpackers and settled down with a few drinks.
When we booked the bungee jumping we managed to get a package so we could do rafting as well for a discounted price. This meant that the rafting company picked us up from the backpackers at 7 in the morning and drove us to the beggining of the rapids. Rafting with us was a large man from south Africa and 2 girls from Mozambique (who were shocked at how much Portugese I had learnt from my trip to Brazil). They were all great fun to talk to and was hillarious with the rafting. We were to go down 24 different rapids, each with some interesting names such as the Mother, the Terminator and the 3 ugly sisters. Because it was high water season the rapids weren't as good as we had heard but they were sill quite extreme. Sadly the raft didn't flip over at any point but we all fell in at leat 3 times each which was great. At some points we could jump out the raft and float down some of the rapis. I really loved this as it was so nice and relaxing (untill you had to swim really hard to get away from the sharp rocks!
When we arrived at the end, one of the girls from Mozambique fell in so we had to pull her in as quickly as we could and then paddle upstream to th landing bay. Now that was exhausting! This was then followed by a very steep climb up the gorge to get to a BBQ and a couple of beers. All in all it was a very good, if tiring, day. Luke and I would definately like to go back in the low season to see if it would be more fun with larger rappids.
