We just about managed to get the bus to vic falls from Harare after getting dropped off by one taxi driver at the wrong place! The coach had to be whistled down for us. When we were about half way there, there was a machanical fault with the bus so we got out, stretched our legs and waited for about half an hour for the other coach to come along. The next coach was very comfortable! The seats were a lot bigger so it was a lot easier for luke and me to sleep on it. When we arrived at Vic falls, we got talking to some other travellers on the coach. They offered us a ride to the backpackers because they were also going to exactly the same place. So nice of them and very convenient!
The backpackers is loud! The music goes on till about 12 on monday to wednesday and 1 the rest off the week. Our doorm is very close to the music so we just have to party untill the music stops then get some sleep. Fine for us but others didn't like it too much!
We decided to then go to the falls the next day to and spend some time there. We walked along the zambezi, going past a massive boabab tree and meeting some interesting people (one of them claimed to be Mugabe's son!). And also get offered weed by about 5 different people! We really weren't expecting that! The falls are amazing. So huge and beautiful!! It's the rainy season here so there was a LOT of water flowing over the massive falls. The sound is so immense as well. I can really see why it's called mosi-oa-tunya (the smoke that thunders). We really weren't expecting to get as wet as we did though. It was like being in a torrential rain storm or just going for a swim. Sadly in some places the views were obstructed by the ammount of spray but over all it was amazing.
When we got back to the Backpackers, we got to know some people here. One of the people who was great company was a 69 year old australian woman who is travelling around africa by herself. She's so great and has so many stories and hillarious comments! We planned on staying for 4 nights as we ge one night free which is always welcome!
