Cocora valley of the palms and beta town tejo!
Today we jumped on the back of the Jeep and headed to Cocora valley, home of Colombia's national tree the wax palm, which can grow up to 200 feet in height! Pretty amazing trees!!! We had been told that a lot of them are falling over and not many new ones are growing and in a few years they will all be gone.....
The first couple kilometres of the trail was absolutely one of the most stinky, muddiest trails I had ever done, caused mainly because of the hundreds of horses sharing it.... The plan was to hopefully do a loop so we would not have to return on this trail. We both managed to make it through though without getting too much mud all over us on our way to Acaime, the humming bird sanctuary/coffee shop. It was a pretty cool place, allowing us to get very very close to hummingbirds! Then it was further up the mountain and into the cloud forest to Finca la Montanã. It would've been amazing views had the thick clouds not been there, but we were in the cloud forest so go figure......
Returning from the finca was a mountain road with amazing views of the valley once we were out of the clouds.... also made for much nicer walking! Back at the entrance of the park we both ordered a trout dinner and then got on the jeep to head back to Salento.
We headed out tonight to Beta town, for some Tejo and cervesas...
And my team whopped Claire's team...... Haha
