Jono's Travels
Today was a travel day, involving a few hours on the bus which would take us to Pisa where apparently there is a some well known tower, and then we would head to Florence where we are going to spend the next day or so. After a quick shower and a quick change of clothes I took my stuff down to the bus where it was left while we had our breakfast, this mornings breakfast wasn't a good as the morning before, but hey, it was still breakfast. After breakfast we got onto the bus and made our way toward Pisa, ended up that we were taking a new road which has recently opened and Ronnie had no idea what it was like as he had never driven on it, but apparently it takes about 20 minutes off the travel time, so that's good. After arriving in Pisa we grabbed our packed lunches and made our way toward the Leaning Tower of Pisa. We were warned that there are people selling things illegally on the streets and instead of fining them, the police fine the people that buy the products about 1000 Euro, while I can see that working if you know about it, if you don't know they are doing it illegally and you don't know about the fine, why would you not buy stuff from them (if it's a good deal) there isn't anything to discourage them to not sell their stuff if they don't get fined themselves. Making our way through the crowds in Pisa to get one of those iconic perspective photos wasn't actually as bad as I thought it would be, while it was hard to not be in the way of someone else's photo, it was still surprising enough to be able to get a photo without too much trouble. Well after I got several different perspective photos and obviously I felt I needed to get a handstand photo in front of the tower, I took a walk around the grounds. Not sure if I mentioned while we were in Paris the foreign people just walking into a sectioned off area despite it being obvious you weren't allowed there, well same thing here, there were parts of the grass areas you weren't allowed on, well signed as well... Didn't stop 5 foreign people just strolling out there for about 10 minutes taking photos despite being told to get off, they just played stupid and pretending they didn't know any better. Hopefully the armed guards scared them off it. We made our way back to the bus after having about an hour to look through, and then got our photos ready for the photo competition. The winner was Conner, who made a pizza tower of the leaning tower of Pisa, second place went to some of the girls and Fabian for doing a person pyramid, followed by a tie for third place Kat, took a photo of her following an Ice cream next to the tower, basically saying which is better, well on the hot day like today, ice cream seemed pretty good to me, and Anthony was the other person for third place, of which I don't even know what his picture was. It was off to Florence next, great scenic views along the way, reminding me a lot of home, just a nice green fields and green trees everywhere. We arrived at our campsite at around 4pm, perhaps just a little before, and this place is huge, apparently it's the largest campsite in Europe, and heading down to the pool kind of proved it, pools of different levels, with about 5 or so separate pools on the ground area along with a water slide (not a super large one or fast one). We dropped off our bags to our rooms and then got our swimmers on before heading down to the main pool, we setup the chairs for us and went and got some pina coladas which were fairly cheap, but still rather tasty. Others turned up as time went by, and we just enjoyed the drinks and each other's company by the pool until about 6:30 where we all headed to our rooms to get ready for dinner. Dinner was a mixture today of different things, Pasta, spaghetti, and giant pizzas. I really enjoyed the Pasta, not so much the Pizza or the spaghetti. Dessert was a kind of apple tart, that wasn't that great either in my opinion, eatable, but I wouldn't have another like Conner did. After dinner I gave the parents a quick call to see how things were going, just over a week and a half before they leave on their 4 month trip. Mum took the phone out to the cat who appeared to be very happy to hear my voice and was rubbing herself up against the phone (I could see her on FaceTime). Miss my cat, but I'll see her when I get back. At about 10:30, Conner, Ryan and myself headed off to the Disco, upon arriving we found we were the only people to arrive so far, free shot on the bar for us Topdeck people and then we brought a cocktail each, 1 litre of Vodka and Redbull, of which half of it was Vodka. Very strong, so strong I only made my way through half of it. I gave the rest to Conner who had already finished his one. By this stage we had another few groups turn up, the biggest group were a bunch of oldies who danced the night away later than me, as I left Ryan and Conner to continue their night while I headed off to bed.
