Jono's Travels
When beginning a blog entry every morning it can be a little hard coming up with ways to introduce the day, it may turn out that my blog entries get more and more boring, as the trip goes on. Not from the fact that I'm not enjoying myself, but more the fact that I just have run out of typing things without repeating everything over and over again. You may have also noticed that some days my Facebook feeds have several blogs, and then other days have none, good reason for that, sometimes I'm just too stuffed to finish my blog on the day and usually fall asleep while typing it, therefore I'm left completing he blog the next day. This is also hard if it's not a travel day, as it is... Today is a travel day so I'm finishing yesterday's blog now. I woke this morning, still feeling a little down, but hey, it's a new day and it's not raining. After a quick COLD shower as I couldn't seem to get the shower hot, I headed off to breakfast and had some awesome bacon and eggs, the eggs were so yellow, I don't know how they got them that colour, but either way they were good. We headed into the township of Venice by bus to the train terminal and then jumped on the train into the township which took all of 1 and we could have possibly walked there faster than after the time we waited for the train, no major though, part of the experience After arriving at the terminal, we walked around Venice checking out some of the sites, even saw the spot where Harrison Ford came up out of in the movie "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade". I never realised how many streets in Venice there were, a lot more than I thought, we were pretty well much able to get around the entire place by streets, and while we could have used gondolas (punts, or water taxis), there wasn't really much point as we had no idea what to see, walking the streets was a better way to see Venice to see the shops. After our look around the place we all took a Gondola (punting) ride around some of the canals, a nice experience seeing the town from the water, side note, Venice is sinking at a rate of about 2mm's a year. It was pretty incredible how they manoeuvred there way around these canals and didn't hit things like other boats or walls, but it's something they are use to I guess. Only about 3 or 4 licenses to be a gondola taxi driver are handed out a year, and the others are handed down from after to son. After our Gondola rides some of us headed into a Glass blowing shop where they sold hundreds of glass blown pieces, while they don't do it permanently from the shop, they have a small part setup for tourists so they can show us how they make them, in our demo we sat down and I was expecting it to be like the other demonstrations that I had seen in the past, but no. The guy pulled out the rod of glowing glass (about 1000 degrees) and in just on a minute or so, this guy had produced a glass horse standing on its hind legs and tail. It was amazing to see how quick he was... Now as this was just a demo piece. He just chucked it back into the furnace when he was done. I thought it was a waste, but I guess he probably makes heaps of them a day, so it isn't an issue. After that, some of others headed off to explore Venice, while the rest of us carried on and visited a shop that makes and sells lace, while it was very impressing to learn how they make it (essentially just needle and thread), I wasn't going to buy anything despite how beautiful some of the things were. After that, the rest of the group split up, and while one group went off to explore places for lunch, the other group did the same, but in a different direction. For lunch, pizza was the order, which tasted great, I'm not sure if it's due to the really nice tasting base, or it if it was the fact that we had been waiting so long to get served at the table. The place was flat out, tourists everywhere, I swear that tn while we were there, there would have Ben at least 70 people go in for lunch. The waiter kept on heading past us and then saying 1 minute, 2 minutes would pass by and he would head past again and say 1 minute please, repeat, but after we finally got our lunches it was well worth the wait. By the time we finished lunch we had just a few sore minutes before we had to make our way to the ferry terminal to catch the ferry back to the bus terminal where we were getting picked up from, so we made our way to the ferry terminal and caught it back to bus stop and then headed back our campsite for the rest of the day. Upon arriving there, it was straight to our cabins, changed into our togs and then into the pool to relax with a little swim and a beer. Or for some of the others, just to relax in the sun next to the pool. After a couple of hours of just chilling out, we went and had dinner which was just as good as this mornings breakfast, if not even better, pasta and bacon, oh yeah. During dinner, we had a little surprise turn up, our T-shirts that we had ordered, I have to say, Kats designs came out really good on the shirt. Most of the others then headed back to the cabins while a few of us stayed up and enjoyed a drink or two before heading back to our rooms.
