Finally! Nearly 2 days of pure travelling is over and has brought us to Tupiza in Bolivia.
The first leg of the journey was 26 hours by bus to La Quiaca on the Argentine border. We stopped a few times at these random pockets of civilisation which punctuated the otherwise barren landscape, but other than that it was Spanish films, iPod and reading all the way and it went surprisingly quickly!
We then crossed the border into Villazon on the Bolivian side and it brought back memories of the last time I passed through here as the effects of the altitude became noticeable with shallow breathing and tingles in your legs!
We had a great lunch at a crazy womans cafe which, despite her clearly charging us gringo price still only cost £3!
After killing a bit of time we then had to endure a bone crunching couple of hours on a bus that was barely worth the £1.50 charge to Tupiza. The one good thing from the jouney was how Heather and I befriended a cute little Bolivian girl, which took our mind of the smell of the chicken man stood behind us!
We decided to stay an extra day in Tupiza to let us get over the long journey, and it proved to be a great decision as after a 3 course lunch for £2.50 we spent Tuesday horseriding in what felt like the wild west and was where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid were made famous!
We spent 3 hours riding out with our guide Luis and although we were all a bit saddle sore by the end of it, it was a brilliant afternoon which was great fun, made all the better by having a cowboy hat to ride with!
