With buses out to Sucre fully booked we arranged for a taxi to take us instead (at £4 each for a 2.5 hour journey, it was hardly breaking the bank!) and so we arrived in Sucre (the first deviation from the spreadsheet!) with enough time to head out for a brilliant birthday meal for Staff of mixed fondue followed by chocolate fondue for dessert, at a really nice place in town! All in all, Heath seemed pretty happy that she had had a birthday to remember!
Sucre actually turned out to be a really nice surprise as it is a lovely town which is really quite charming, with colonial architecture showing a distinct Spanish influence in the main plaza in particular. Riggers wasn't well (nothing new there!) on Tuesday and so stayed in bed whilst the other three of us just headed out and wandered around town and the brilliant markets (with everything from horses heads and tails to birthday cakes and electricals!) all day where we haggled away with the locals.
It was a really really good day where we didn't really do anything big but it was just nice and relaxing strolling around, and we then finished with a few drinks to cap it all off. It was so nice to finally be able to have consecutive hot showers and warm bedrooms to sleep in-it seems like that is the first time we have had that in South America! On Wednesday after having a painful lunch overlooking the plaza (we only ordered sandwiches!) we showed Riggers all the best parts we had found the day before in this surprise of a town which has well been worth the visit, before heading on to the worlds highest capital and back into the cold weather!
