Today we covered the northern loop of Yellowstone National Park. From West Yellowstone where we are staying, both the south and north loops are 200 km. They look like short distances on the map but the speed limits are low - from 40 to 70 kph except were there is game on the road. Buffalo have right of way, they usually think for a long time between steps so getting past them can be slow. Bank on an average speed of 30 kph.
We stopped at Beryl Hot Springs for Maureen. See where my name came from - the blue colour. I looked at the notes on the spring and it said - be careful as it is at boiling point and there is chance of explosive gas. As I pointed this out to Maureen a chap nearby was just about in hysterics.
We had a walk around the Norris Geyser Basin and then a further walk around at Mammoth Hot Springs (see photo above). Other items of interest was Tower Falls where it drops into the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. We crossed Dunraven Pass and took in views of the Yellowstone Cladera from the past.
I was tricked with the North Rim walk for the Yellowstone Falls. It has been closed so we went to the brink of the falls - there is a lot of water going over.
Tomorrow we do half of the south loop again to get to the Grand Tetons.
