Saturday Monkey Mia Shark Bay Lost 2 grey nomads last seen on caravan park during cyclone Pancho easily identified by strong Lancashire accents although they claim to be Australian citizens.Actually the cyclone is off shore and we are catching the fringe effects as it moves down the coast. We did manage to sleep aided by paracetamol and prayer and if the dolphins had come in we would have been up to late to see them. The morning entertainment was provided by the unfortunates in tents who had to pack up in the howling wind and pouring rain.We did venture out at lunchtime reasoning it was better to eat the resorts food supplies than our own and we walked back to the van along the beach which was a very uncomfortable experience with the wind driving sharp sand in our faces. There was a brief moment about 2pm when it brightened but now at 5.30 it is as bad again. We have booked an extra night hoping it will have passed over by tomorrow or Monday and we will get to see the dolphins before we leave on Tuesday.Today the roads north are open but the forecast is for possible thunderstorms all week.SundayStorm abated a bit.We got up early and went to the beach but the dolphins didn't come in they have more sense than we humans. We had a ride out in the afternoon to Denham which is the only town on Shark Bay but we ran into rather than away from the rain.At Denham is a new Shark Bay Interpretative Centre and for a while we were the only visitors. It was bright and modern but too wordy with nothing for children.I would only recommend it if like us you are going stir crazy in a caravan and need to get out.Mondaystill a strong wind but bright sunshine.Down to the beach again at 7.30am and the dolphins came in but the storm had left a wide line of weed and branches along the waters edge and it was difficult to see them maybe tomorrow will be better. We are leaving in the morning but will try to go down before we pack up.We braved a cruise on a catamaran and saw dugongs and seals and called at a pearl farm which is a floating platform about 10 minutes offshore. They had lost 2 boats in the cyclone and were very bitter about the official reports which put the cyclone way off shore but the pearl men say it was in the bay and they have two boats at the bottom of the sea to prove it.Also a salt works at one end of the bay was so badly hit it will be 12 months before it is operational again.Tonight we may go to a talk about the area and then an early start before we hit the road to Carnarvan.
