Sunday 6th April Tom PriceTom Price is a town created in the 1960s when iron ore was discovered in the Pilbara an area of W.A. which has majestic mountains and a stunning coast. The Tom Price mine is certainly the largest iron ore mine in Australia and maybe the world. It is so big they have already reduced a mountains height by half.We are hoping to do a mine tour but it is proving logistically difficult.Tours can only be booked at the visitor centre. They are only open 10am-2pm and not on Sundays. The tour leaves the visitor centre at 10am but only if they have at least 10 people. We arrived here at 5pm Sat. and want to leave Monday and have to be of the park by 10am. if 8 other people have already booked we could leave the car and van on the visitor centre car park but if not we definitely don't want to hang around here for days hoping a tour is on.The other big attraction here is KarijiniN.P. which has some spectacular gorges and swimming holes. We set of this morning with swimming gear but sadly had to admire from afar as the swimming holes are at the bottom of very deep gorges and I doubt if I could have stumbled down never mind climbing back up.Very frustrating especially for Joe who was longing for this new experience of swimming in a natural swimming pool and could perhaps could have managed the climb but we enjoyed the scenery.
