Friday Shark BayWhen we started out this morning it was rather overcast and during the morning we had a few light showers. We turned of the highway to Shark Bay and decided to stop at one of the must see placesHamelin Poolwhich is not a pool but a kind of natural lagoon which because it is protected by a reef just offshore is one of the only 2 places in the world where there are Stromatolites which are colonies of micro-organisms that resemble the oldest and simplest forms of life on earth 3.5 billion years age. These are new colonies about 3,000 yrs old .Can you tell I am quoting from the tourist brochure? They look like rocky lumps along the shoreline and about 100 feet out into the sea.Visitors have to walk out over the water on a boardwalk because these things are very fragile. When we arrived at the resort/van park at Monkey Mia it was pouring down. The staff asked was we heading north after here, "yes we are""no you are not all roads north are flooded and closed and all activities off".We had been making plans all day about what we would do here.Feed the dolphins, have a cruise to see the dugongs, sharks and manta rays, maybe have a scenic flight, use the hot tub which is fed by the hot water from the artesian basin and fill our two days to the brim.It now looks like it will be 2 days marooned in the van watching videos, playing board games and eking out our food supplies. It has to be videos because the weather is affecting the tv reception. It's a hard life. The storm is part of a cyclone which is of the coast and was supposed to be blowing out to sea so it could be all over tomorrow or???
