Thursday ExmouthHad a super day. When we arrived yesterday we booked a full day's trip for today and then saw the weather forecast which was saying there is a low coming in bringing heavy rain but we got lucky although it was overcast and a few spots of rain it was actually a good day for the activities planned on the tour. The 4x4 bus picked us up at the caravan park at 7.30am and we learned a couple of the points of interest were closed off so of course we couldn't go there and that we were only allowed on the top of the range road because we had a professional driver, it was closed to all other traffic. All this is the fault of cyclone Pancho which passed by Exmouth last weekend. The driver was very knowledgeable about local plants and Aboriginal bush tucker and a really nice man. We drove along the top of Cape Range to see the gorges, on next to the lighthouse where we could see the oil rigs out at sea and where we had morning tea.The driver made the billy tea in the proper way with a gum leaf in it and he swung the billy can round very professionally. Then down to the national park and the stunning beaches.Lunch was a picnic after a swim in the Indian Ocean. The highlight for me was a boat trip up Yardie creek and seeing rock wallabies and eagle and osprey nests. On the way back we stopped at another beautiful beach to give those who could snorkel a chance to swim over Ningaloo Reef and the rest of us a swim in the warm clear water with colourful fish around us.The reef is quite close into the shore at one point but we didn't feel confident enough to swim out so far and of course you are not allowed to stand on the reef when you get there because a. it will cut your feet and more importantly it will damage the coral.Afternoon tea was served after our swim then back home at 6pm.We shall be glad of a quieter day tomorrow with a lie in and a chance to clean the car and caravanOn Saturday we move on to Tom Price (yes that is the name of the town) and a very different experience.
