Thursday BroomeJust a few lines about Weds. The tour of the iron ore plant in Port Hedland was expensive and not worth staying over an extra night for.The bus was dilapidated with dirty windows and the final insult was giving everyone free samples which were a leaflet and a plastic bag of iron ore powder. What on earth do they expect you to do with that?If you are over this way avoid Port Hedland if possible and especially avoid the tour and the cafes which are basic and where they charge exorbitant prices.Only leaving PH at lunchtime meant we could not do the trip to Broome in one stretch so we had an interesting stopover halfway at the back of a roadhouse sharing the space with 4 other vehicles, a bull, a camel, 4 peacocks and at least 30 geese thankfully there was a fence of sorts between the bull, the camel and us.We arrived at Broome at lunchtime and are staying on a massive 500 site caravan park which is surprisingly leafy, roomy and quiet and is just minutes away from Cable beach which is reckoned to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. We went down to see the sunset and see the camels giving rides along the beach but the beach is 22ks long and we couldn't find them.We have decided not to have a ride on them because we did a camel ride in Tunisia in 1986 and we still remember the pain.Friday still in BroomeHaven't found the camels yet.Went down to Chinatown which was disappointing not at all like we expected and not a Chinese in sight.Lots of pearl showrooms (can't really call them shops at those prices} and restaurants no doubt at the same price level.Very hot so we came back to the van and the air conditioning for our lunch then drove out to the pearl farm. They do a two hour tour and you either go on their coach which doubles the price or you self drive down an unsealed road and shake your car to bits. The coach was actually full so we had to take the car or we couldn't have gone today. The tour was good and included afternoon tea and a cruise up an inlet where there is supposed to be a crocodile in residence but he wasn't in.Going in the water is definitely out now we have crossed the line which say's crocodiles may be in these waters.Tomorrow we booked a hovercraft trip to see the dinosaur footprints on the beach at low tide and may go to the open air cinema in the evening.
