Whitneys on Tour
We arrived here on 24th February from Salvador to spend carnival here. This proved to be a good choice as this was a really nice town with a superb beach plus we stayed in a really nice hostel. Although it was some 6km out of town and a good 15 mins walk from the beach is was a really nice place to stay with it's own little swimming pool and hammocks in which to laze the days away in. Given the searing heat of the day, lying in hammocks in the shade was just about the limit of our activities as it was too damn hot to do much else. The temperatures were in the 90's every day and whilst that might be fine for your average Brazilian, it was a little too much for us Anglo Saxon types so we just went to the beach in the late afternoon if at all. In general it was a thoroughly lazy and relaxed time. We were too lazy to even take any photo's.
The carnival was fun with bands playing on floats every night in the town where you could buy lovely (and strong) capirinha drinks for a pound or so from the stalls to get you in the party spirit. Having said that we weren`t overly impressed with the cheesy latino music they love here, it all sounds the bloody same! As Notting Hill carnival veterans how we longed for the Brazillian Norman Jay to turn up or the Sancho Panza sound system but alas it was not to be.
We stayed a week and left on the 3rd to take a 19 hour bus ride to Rio to fly out of there to Santiago, Chile our last port of call in South America.
