We flew out of Kathmandu on 2nd July to Bangkok where we immediately caught another flight to the resort island of Phuket where we headed for the fairly quiet Kata beach area near the south of the Island. We left Lhasa on 25th June for a six day 4WD trip with our excellent tour group deeper into the Himalayas. We arrived in the Tibetan capital of Lhasa via a flight from Kathmandu. After leaving Sapa, Vietnam we caught an overnight train to Hanoi then a flight to Bangkok on 17th June. It was a bit of a fraught day to be honest as the train got in to Hanoi at the ungodly hour of 5.30am. We arrived in this lovely mountain town via a night train out of Hanoi. Metarphorically and literally Sapa proved to be a breath of fresh air for us after the frustrations of the capital. For a start it's a smallish town so no danger of being run over by hoardes of motor bikes every time you cross the road and the people here are genuinely nice and you don't feel you're going to get ripped off at every move.
