Pushkar 29th and 30th January
Up at the crack of dawn, we were at the station heading to Pushkar at 5.30am. After a very quiet train journey and a white knuckle bus ride we arrived at a very new and classy hotel. Pushkar is a holy city and is also famous for the camel fair it holds every autumn.
Jo spent a couple of hours by the pool preparing herself for a camel safari. After much hilarity, we were on our camels and heading for the desert. The journey went on for about an hour and a half before we stopped for chai in the sand dunes. We dismounted our camels and Jo's then completely collapsed and just wanted to sleep. (She was the straw that broke the camel's back!- see photo) The return trek to the town was as the sun went down so very atmospheric. Nikki had to trot back at great speed as the boy who was leading her camel stopped to repair our group camel cart which fell on to the heads of Lorna and Trisha who had long since abandoned their camels. Nursing very sore bums we levered ourselves in and out of chairs and eventually into bed.
The following day we said goodbye to our group as they headed back to Delhi on the night train and we stayed one more night preparing ourselves for solo (duo?) adventures ahead.
