13.2.10-22.2.10 Jo in Goa
How was Goa? First impressions were not good mainly due to the grumpy guesthouse owner and her poor lodgings. After one night it was back to the airport to collect Ken and as an added bonus he was armed with a bottle of Gordons, which after a month of rough Indian gin was a real treat.
Our first destination was a busy tourist resort but we stayed in a lovely hotel which stuffed us full of food and drink that we hadn't ordered! At first we were suspicious that our hotel bill are going to be enormous until it became apparent it was all complimentary.
Three nights later and three pounds heavier we headed inland to stay by the river. We were nervous as we approached Colvale because when we were arranging the taxi all the drivers said, "Why you go there?" - not a good sign. Fortunately all our fears were alleviated as we drove down the steep entrance to the hotel. The setting and silence were magical. Our room was vast and the balcony was so big it had a sofa and dining table on it. It was all very chic.
Whilst at the hotel we amused ourselves using the pools, taking taxis to local quiet beaches and one day we went cycling! Yes, in thirty degree heat we cycled around the hilly countryside. On the last day we shared the speed boat with another couple and floated around the backwaters looking at the diverse wildlife and observing everyday life for locals. Then we headed out to sea dolphin watching. Although the dolphins started off very shy they were soon jumping and leaping in front of us, not that the photos show this; as it was impossible to capture and after a few snaps of splash and the odd fin we gave up and just enjoyed the experience.
The week passed quickly and before we knew it we were back at the airport. After standing in the sun for an hour to check in, Ken was in the terminal and Jo headed south to a friendly guesthouse owned by the lovely Flora.
Goa was brilliant with an excellent mix of luxury and good company!
PS. For those of you that know Ken, you will not be surprised to hear that he has broadened his property search and is considering either a riverside property or a converted rice barge!!

Corynne AT LAST!!! I thought you had fallen off the face of the earth! Every time I eagerly logged on to the blog website, I was met with another update from Nikki (albeit v. interesting!) and nothing from you...now I see why - you were too busy! It sounds like you had a fab time- I can't wait to see the photos! X
Nikki I am rather jealous of the deuxe Goa experience but far, far more envious of the Gordon's gin! Now you could write a little comment on one of my pages Jo, (you know how happy we are to receive them!)there will be another 4 installments when I get to the wifi heaven of Delhi so you can take your pick...
Charlotte Caught up with about 2 weeks of your blog so an overdue message. All sounds wonderful. Comment about Ken and his property searching doesn't surprise me and made me smile! Hope things are going well. Lovely to speak the other day. Must be psychic- have just bought a tray of tonic to mix with the Gordon's, in preparation for your arrival! Catch up soon. x
Kate Jo! You're back! And now we see you were clearly the ringleader in all those previous Gin-based exploits. I feel a swell of familial pride...
