Khajuraho 20/2/10
Nikki
Today we travelled in style in private cars to Khajuraho. On the way we stopped at a paper making co-operative supported by Intrepid which employs local people to make paper products from waste fabric. The ladies we saw seemed to be loving their work and there was lots of laughter and chat. There was some great stationery to buy in the little shop so the backpack is now even more stuffed!
When we arrived in Khajuraho we were taken to lunch at our guide, Dilip's house. A great thali was served…we never seem to stop eating on these tours! After the feast we were whisked off to the temples, famed for their erotic sculptures. The site was hugely impressive, beautifully maintained and set in lovely gardens. We looked at several of the temples, each dedicated to a different one of the 30,000 Hindu gods. Our guide had a good sense of humour and although only 10% of the sculptures are erotic, ensured he pointed out these particular carvings. Some were amazing….you could tell they were all very supple yoga experts!!!
As lunch had been such a huge meal we sacrificed dinner for beer and crisps and sat in the garden with Shirley and Ian relating hilarious travel anecdotes drawn from more than 40 years of world adventures.

Kit Mmm. The thalis sound good. And so do all the sights and sounds of your trip. It is helping me get through the winter..... I don't comment every time, but I do read it all.
Heidi Sounds amazing Nikki, a world away from here...still first signs of spring appearing and weather a bit better these past couple of days. Just come back from a scootering and bike adventure- Thomas just learnt to ride properly without stabilisers- so quite a monumental day! Off out to friend's for dinner- boys off to nanny's for the night!! Whoopee. Will wait for your next installment with anitcipation. Have fun xxx
