We arrived in Sydney safe and sound…… no turbulence this time! We checked into our accommodation for the next three nights which was Home Backpackers on Elizabeth Street…. not quite like home but a nice comfortable hostel (with free jam & toast to keep Jo happy!)
Off we went into Sydney to investigate our new surroundings, the city is huge compared to Leeds with plenty of walking to be done to get where you want to be, we checked out Darling Harbour and Botanical Gardens on our first day (nice and free) the gardens were lovely to see and it was quite weird to see hundreds of bats hanging from the trees in broad daylight!
Over the next few days we headed to Wildlife World, Sydney Aquarium and the Sky Tower…. The Wildlife world was great and we managed to arrive at the right time of day to see the HUGE spiders being fed (little insects thrown on the web to face their death) Joanna does not wish to say how the Pythons are fed…. She didn’t like watching it! On with the tour to see Kangaroos, Crocs & Koalas including a little baby Joey, we also held a big ass snake…… & Joanna ran through the butterfly enclosure in fear! The Wildlife World was definitely the best of the three!
The Aquarium was good to see the baby Penguins, turtles and loads of tropical fish. The Dugongs were actually quite cute despite their enormous size! The Sky Tower was ok to have a look round but you soon get bored of looking out of a window (I bet Jo just wanted to bungy out of it!!)
Checked out the Harbour Bridge and Opera House…. We wanted to do the bridge climb but thought we would save the cash for later travels…. All in all we had a great time in Sydney, flying to Melbourne tomorrow for a couple of days before picking up our campervan for a lovely 3500km drive back up the coast to Cairns!!
