Dear Simone and Jamie
Thank you very much for buying us a night out in Bangkok. Rather than spend it on rat poison, we decided to go out and meet our friend Alex at Eleven Above, a rather nice roof top bar on the 47th floor of a building in the centre of Bangkok. It would have been quite beautiful to have watched the sunset over the city but to do so would have meant Donna getting ready on time. Instead we arrived 2 hours late but Alex told us it was very nice.
We are split in our opinion of what was the highlight of the night. Donna rather liked her posh and expensive cocktail she had which apparently had lashings of fresh ginger, flumps of kiwifruit and a lot of vodka.
Me on the other hand really enjoyed the men's toilets. This included a urinal in front of a full length window overlooking the city. This gave the impression you were really weeing on Bangkok.
I would say that of all the toilets I have ever been in all the places in the world, this one was by far the best.
You have never seen so many men taking their camera to the toilet before.
Next Alex took us to a very authentic Thai bar called Champions which has pictures of Man Utd all over everything. Alex picked this place because apparently it did really good chicken nuggets.
I however have so far managed to maintain my only eating Thai food so far and so abstained from that particular meal choosing instead to frequent the local 7-11.
I am very proud of not touching any western food so far and can self-righteously look down on those people eating pizza and burgers. After all darlings it is all about coming to Thailand and experiencing the local culture. There are a couple of get out clauses to my Thai only diet.
1. Chicken on a stick is definately Thai food. In fact anything on a stick is authentic Thai food
2. Eating someone else's leftover pasta/garlic bread/chicken nuggets counts as authentic Thai food
3. Anything from 7-11 counts as a authentic Thai food. There is not much justification for this other than it is cheap and very very good, especially the toasted sandwiches.
Other things to note is that while drunk the other night we decided to shave off half my hair. The left half to be exact. Can't really say it was a success but at least it will grow back (unlike tattoos which are permanent).
Secondly we have finally said goodbye to Jordan, our resident stalker who has been following us around since our flight from Heathrow. She is sadly being missed as it is not as much fun being rude and offensive to other travellers without her.
Finally, that wonderful new Thai phone I bought last time is the biggest pile of s***. Don't bother texting it
Anyway until next time
Jim and Donna
