We were scheduled to go on a flight over Milford Sound yesterday but it has rained overnight and the weather continued to be cloudy and windy into the morning. This meant that our flight was cancelled and might go ahead in mid afternoon. We moved to Te Anau, slightly North and ate lunch by the lake after having a wander around the local shops. The wind was icy, clearly my summer clothes and one jacket were not really appropriate!
We visited the information site (iSite) again and booked some accommodation for our next few nights in Dunedin before venturing out to our Te Anau B&B. Our hosts, Doug and Linda welcomed us and showed us to our comfy room. We checked on our flight and were told that it would go ahead at 6pm.
Our flight over Milford Sound was nothing short of spectacular. We travelled over Lake Manapouri, through mountain passes and over Milford Sound to the Tasman Sea before heading back through other mountains and landing at the airport. The sight of the mountain lakes and glaciers on the mountain tops was stunning. The sun was setting over the Tasman as we headed back, it was a truly fabulous flight and well worth waiting for!
This morning we started our drive to Dunedin. The drive left mountains behind and saw us driving through hilly farm land. There weren't many towns along the way. In Dunedin we're staying at a B&B in Company Bay which is about 20 minutes drive out of the city on the Otago Peninsula.
