Tuesday 2nd May arrived at Baoguo Monastery, Mount Emei, we got on the overnight train 22:00 Monday and got off 17:00 Tuesday (long journey) Our accommodation at the Monastery is basic shared squat toilets and communal showers (men's & women's separate) gongs at 05:00 and chanting at 07:00 Blissful. 3rd May as well as the gongs and chanting we woke to heavy rain which put pay to our trek, so we visited a Nunnery up the mountain, interesting and we spent the afternoon at hot water springs which were very relaxing then the highlight of the day Gail's birthday cake after dinner (for China it wasn't bad). Thursday 4th May boat trip to view the biggest rock carved Buddha in the world (allegedly) then a village cultural tour, visiting old houses, meeting very interesting old folk (older than me & Ga) playing with cute 2-4 year olds at a kindergarten and they were gorgeous kids we finished up at a Tea Plantation.
Friday 5th May fast train to Chengdu, afternoon had orientation walk, then Hot Pot a specially of the area (a big fondue but using chopsticks not easy) and Chinese Opera in the evening which was only ok with the best bit at the end !!! J & G
