Jen's Journeys
As many of you may recall, we've been driving around with four hubcaps in the trunk of our car. As we leave on Sunday, it was time to do something about this. Fortunately, Sara, our hostess, recommended a garage right nearby. When I started with "We have a rental car...", he immediately said "Ok, what did you do to it?" and laughed. So at least he had a sense of humor! After an overly lengthy explanation of our situation, he said, "So, you want them out back on?" Yes, sir, we do!! So in about 4 minutes flat, we had all four hubcaps back on complete with cable ties to secure them a bit more (which is common practice here as hubcaps like to jump off in general in Ireland). And the best part? All he wanted was a "fiver". FABULOUS. We then took the car back to the B&B and set out on foot. Our intention was so do some sight seeing. And we did see the old part of the university, the Galway cathedral (which although only from 1965, is still a beautiful building), and St. Nicholas Collegiate Church, this one from the 14th century. But then we had that moment that you know you've had if you've ever toured Europe for any amount of time. The moment when you realize you are not going to take any more pictures of any more buildings. And the views that blew you away a week ago have become slightly the norm for you. So what did we do? We went shopping!!! Mainly because by losing a pair of jeans to a tear on day two, I was in major need of an option that would allow me to put the functioning pair of jeans deep into my suitcase and leave them there. So, we wound up finding a couple of Irish department stores and found some great deals. But shopping makes girls hungry. Fortunately, Steph was craving Italian and there just happened to be a man wearing a sandwich board for an Italian place. And it was SO GOOD. Lunch was a major success. When we emerged, it was raining. (We have been so lucky - really only two days were we plagued by rain. In Ireland. Crazy.) So, of course we found a pub. At about 2 pm. And had a few pints. And people watched. Oh man, is the people watching good while the Galway Races are going on!!! Good stuff. So, having drawn the line at five pints, we were in need of food again. Found a great fresh made-to-order sandwich place. Delicious. Walked home, and chilled out. Early morning to get to Dublin on Saturday. So, organizing, repacking, relaxing. Lights out early!!
