Jen's Journeys
Our plane touched down at the Dublin airport shortly before ten am, local time. As we were leaving the plane, who is getting out just in front of us? Why, Flavor Flav, rapper from Public Eniemy, and bad VH1 reality tv star! We actually wound up in the customs line near him and listened to him chat with a couple from northern Louisiana. All around, quite entertaining. But his grill is quite frightening up close! Then, off to rent a car (seeing some of the most gigantic rabbits ever on the way) and see what I am really made of! We got our 4-door, 5-speed Dacia Sandero and headed out. Things started ok, until I hit a pothole...and lost a hubcap... Which we actually didn't know until an angel disguised as an Irish man pulled up next to us at a stoplight and told us we should really go back and get that piece that fell off our car. So, I pulled over and Steph got out to walk back to get it. But then she's back way sooner than she should have been...because the angel has quickly swung back and grabbed it and brought it to us! And actually would have fixed it if he'd been in his van and had his tools! Dang! So close to perfect! So, finding someone to put that back on (which he swears will be no problem) is on our list for the week. We then made our way to Powerscourt Waterfall. The man at the car rental place gave us the thumbs up on that choice as he programmed our gps for us. And it was beautiful! And a really nice place to spend a day picnicking or something. We stayed for a bit and then got back in the car. I can say I felt about 30% better driving already that second time. Hopefully by the end I'm feeling like a pro! The next stop was in a town called Glendalough. There is a monastic site there with its oldest roots in the 6th century. Lots of old ruins and a cemetery. Such a pretty setting in some mountainous area. At this point, the fact that we'd both gotten less than three hours of pseudo sleep was hitting us. Our hotel the first night was a golf resort that was out a bit, which was PERFECT in our book. So, we checked in, freshened up, and headed downstairs to have a pint or two on the patio. It was sunny and about 80 out - not the weather we were expecting in Ireland! So, Steph got her Guinness, I got a Blumers cider. Both went down quite well, thank you. So, after a couple, we went up to have dinner at the hotel's restaurant. To our surprise, we found out a three course meal was included in our stay! So we both got ridiculously full and headed to our room to shower and crash. And crash we did. Until an incredibly loud fire alarm went off at 9:25 pm. Like crazy loud. Flew out of bed. Fortunately, we crashed right away again even though our adrenaline was up. All in all, a great first day in Ireland!
