Jen's Journeys
Today started a bit earlier than the rest. We got up, got ready, loaded the car, scarfed down some breakfast and headed out on our last long haul. It took only about two hours to basically cross the entirety of Ireland on the motorway. No narrow streets, no winding roads. Who'd have thought I would kind of miss that?! We got to our hotel before 11 and headed out to catch the bus into Dublin. First stop was supposed to be the Kilmainham Gaol. Except after walking for 20 minutes, we found a line that was at least an hour of wait time. As it was already 12:30 and we only had one afternoon in Dublin, we vetoed and decided to move on. Gotta leave something for the next time, right? :-) I did snap a couple of pictures, though. After another walk, we got to the Guinness Storehouse. Which is HUGE. I guess it's in an old part of the brewery, and has been renovated to be a 7 floor museum/exhibition. As Milwaukee residents, we didn't need to spend a lot of time on the "how beer is made" parts. But we did go to the Guinness Academy and learn how to pour the perfect pint. And then got to take our perfect pints with us. We headed upstairs to the pub-type restaurant, had our pints and a sandwich and listened to some great music. We wound up having a lot of fun and getting our euros worth! We then headed towards the Temple Bar area with a quick department store stop. My travel umbrella that I bought in Spain a couple of summer ago died yesterday. :-( So, replaced that, started walking again, and then ducked into the nearest pub. Did I mention is has been raining basically for the last two days straight? Trust me - we know we are incredibly lucky that it was only the last two days. But today was SO cold and windy. Ugh. So, we hung out there for a while, then braved the rain to get to Temple Bar and have a pint at The Temple Bar. (Yes, the area is temple bar and so is the bar.) More fun music, and PACKED with tourists. After that, we knew we had a walk, a bus ride, and a walk before even checking in to our hotel. So off we went. tomorrow our flight is at 10:25. So, it will be an early one again tomorrow. So, it's bedtime in Ireland. It's been great! We hope to return soon, Ireland!! Thanks for everything!!!
