Jen's Journeys
Today started out nice and lazy in our castle beds. We did not set an alarm, and headed to breakfast around 9 am. We had been sitting at our table just for a bit when what happens? I RUN INTO ONE OF MY STUDENTS. No lie. He and his family, in the same dining room, in the same castle, in Ireland. Absolute craziness. Although, apparently, when he saw me, his commentary was "What is she doing in Ireland? She's a Spanish teacher!" His mom found this hilarious. So, we talked with them for a bit (they're headed the opposite direction as us) and then enjoyed a really great breakfast. And I may have picked up a couple of packages of a variety of teas to take with me... And yes, I took all the fancy toiletries. You caught me!!! Once we packed up (and went and got our own car and loaded our own bags because we are just NOT that fancy), we drove to the Cliffs of Moher. Guaranteed you've seen photos or you've been there. Harry potter fans? The cave that Harry and Dumbledore go in to look for horcruxes. And if you're not? It's those giant cliffs you've seen before. Pictures below. We walked around for probably a couple of hours. It is just amazing. Truly amazing. After the cliffs, we went to the nearby town of Doolin, which had heard was very cute. It's maybe a block long!! But we got delicious tomato and cheese paninis for lunch, so I was happy with it! Then, onto Galway. Which unbeknownst to us is currently hosting their big annual horse race. Which means this place is PACKED!!! And, today was "ladies' day" at the races, so by the time we went to the city center, it was packed with women dressed to the nines. Now, granted, in some cases that meant dressed like British royalty, very conservatively. And in other cases, dressed in the shortest, tightest, I don't care if this looks good on me dress you ever did see. But in nearly all cases? Fascinators!!! Amazing ones, by the way. We looked like complete slobs in comparison tonight. But, we found a pub we could actually enter and people-watched for a while. Good fun. On the way back, we talked to a variety of people, all of whom were surprised we didn't know what we were walking into here. And oddly, two people whose only experience with America is myrtle beach. ??? Anyway, we had a great night, didn't get swallowed by the crowd, so a win overall. Tomorrow we will head back in to actually sightsee in Galway. And hopefully figure out a way to get our hubcaps put back on! Happy Thursday, everyone!
