Jen's Travel Diary
Saturday - Today I decided to head out to "Mossman Gorge". I booked onto the public bus at 10.30 am and reached the Gorge by 11am. I decided to do the 2.4km walk that took you around the gorge and through the rainforest of the "Daintree National Park". It was such a beautiful place, the walk alongside the gorge was fantastic as the water was cascading down into pools of shiny stones and down through the rainforest. The "Rex lookout" had a swinging bridge where you walked over the gorge itself. The water was so clear and cast fantastic reflections when hit by the sun. As you walked deeper into the forest, away from the gorge, it got really warm and humid. The walk took me 1h as I looked at all the interesting plants that were contained in the forest and also at the information boards that told you how the Aboriginals used certain plants for survival. During the walk I came across a snake that was slithering through the grass, luckily it was only small!! At the end of the walk I needed to cool down so had a paddle in the water of the gorge - it was so cold!!! In the afternoon I sunbathed by the pool before meeting Lynn in the evening to watch a rugby league match in 'Mossman'. The "Ivanhoes" beat "Mossman" and it was a really cool match very end to end! It was really good to catch up with her and buy her a drink as thanks for getting me on the trips.
Sunday - Today I headed into town to "Anzac Park", next to the little white church, as the local markets were on. There were stalls selling local fruit and veg, cakes and jams, local artists paintings and many clothes and accessories. I then headed through the crowds back to the town centre where I did my website and then rewarded myself with an ice-cream. In the afternoon I enjoyed the sunshine on the beach with my book.
Then in the evening I cooked dinner and afterwards wandered into town to enjoy the nightlife - it is really busy as they celebrate the Queens Birthday with a Bank Holiday Weekend. I also rang Mum.
Monday - I left 'Port Douglas' today and headed back to 'Cairns' on the free "Dougies" bus!
