Jen's Travel Diary
Wednesday - I was up bright and early today for my trip to 'Kuranda'. This is the trip that Lynn and Paul organised for me! Graham, our guide, picked the group up at 10am in 'Port'. We then travelled 1h to 'Kuranda' village which was right up in the mountains. The road was very bendy and the further up you got the mistier it got. Once we reached the village we all got out and had 2h to walk around. The village was very quaint with old fashioned shops with tin roofs, and also two little local markets. After wandering around the group met for lunch and we made our way down to the "Skyrail". Now I had to take some deep breaths and calm myself as the only way of getting back down was in a cable car - I hate these!!! The pod that we got in held 6 people (far to many in my opinion) and in short was bloody tiny! The whole trip took 1h and you got off at 2 stations along the way which had various viewpoints. The first viewpoint was of the "Barron Falls", a wonderful waterful that ran through carved out rockfaces. The second station, "Red Lodge" was where you walked through the rainforest and got a view over the route that you had just journed along. The ride was a rocky one and was also very high up - I must say the views were quite nice. We followed the "Barron River" down to the bottom where Graham picked us up. We then drove 45mins and arrived at "Hartleys Crocodile Farm" where the group was to watch the "best crocodile show in Australia". The show was very interesting as the showman fed the crocodile and told us lots of facts and figures. Next up we took a ferry ride down the man-made river and saw lots of crocodiles, we even saw a fight! Then after a cuppa Graham then drove us back to 'Port Douglas' where the trip finished. I had a really great day; it was really interesting and I even enjoyed the "Skyrail" views, which were stunning. Then in the evening Shona, Emma (Uk/Canadian dorm mate) and I went to the bar for a drink and to watch the pool competition.
