Jen's Travel Diary
Tuesday - It was a 2h journey from 'Te Anau' to 'Queenstown' along straight and bendy roads, but the weather was good so the drive was not all that bad. The scenery again was wonderful, especially as we drove along the edge of "Lake Wakatipu" which was very very big! The sun broke through the clouds and so the hills reflected really well in the water. We reached 'Queenstown' and checked into "Bugil backpackers", $17 a night and a really nice hostel. It has a good kitchen, small but warm dormrooms, TV room and even a spa! We then had some dinner before heading into town to the pub to watch the Lions match in "Frasers", picked due to the cheap drinks tickets we received(and we won!!). We then walked back up the hill to the hostel and had a nice cuppa and hot chocolate before bed. We then had a random conversation with the guy in the bed near us (and we had not even met him properly - strange!).
Wednesday - Well I have spent the morning doing the website whilst Neeley slept in. We are now in town and going to go and eat our sandwiches - that Neeley prepared with her own hands! 'Queenstown' is very picturesque, the lake and mountains provide a stunning backdrop to the town. There is one main street ("Shotover Street") and it is very busy with ski and snowboard shops and bars. Neeley and I then walked to the harbour, where lots of lake cruises head out from, which has georgeous clear blue water. We then decided to walk around the lake, which provided great views back to 'Queenstown', but stopped halfway as it was freezing cold! It then started to rain and sleet so we went back to the hostel to watch DVD's, and in the evening Annie popped round. It was great to catch up and she was saying that she planned to go go skiing the folowing day. We then had an early night.
Thursday - Today we left for 'Mount Cook'.
