Jen's Travel Diary
Thursday - It was a 4h drive from 'Napier' to 'Ohakune' in the 'Tongariro National Park'. It was really great countryside with rolling green hills, dark volcanic style rocks, rocky unsealed roads and also past "Mount Ruapehu". One funny part of the journey was when the road we were on was blocked by cows! We had to follow them for 2km down the road before they parted to let us through! When in 'Ohakune' we checked into "Mountain View Motel" and paid $25 for a dorm it the quiant village. It is a basic hostel but right in the little town centre.
Friday - Up today to hear the news on the London blasts, and then to the internet place to read more and also to update the website. In the afternoon we are set for a walk in the National Park. Due to the poor weather we decided only to do two small walks. First we did the "Tawhai Falls" walk which provided great views over the falls which tumbled over the edge of an old lava flow. Then we did the "Mounds Walk" where we could see all the different vegetation that grows on volcanic lava mounds. We then had a quiet night in.
Saturday - Today we are driving to 'Taupo'.
