Jen's Travel Diary
Friday - The drive to 'Nelson' from 'Kaikoura' took 4h and when we arrived we tried to find some accommodation, whcih proved very hard as not many hostels had parking spaces. We finally found "Club Nelson", which is right on the hill at the top of 'Nelson'. We then went for a walk around the city centre trying to get our bearings. The main street is "Trafalgar Street" and that leads to "Bridge Street", where all the bars are! We then got a lovely healthy Pizza Hut dinner, whcih was earnt as we had to climb a massive hill to the hostel!
Saturday - Today we decided to drive to the 'Abel Tasman National Park" which begins near the town of 'Marahau'. We drove through 'Motueka' and 'Kaiteriteri' which were situated around very bendy and steep roads. but the scenery of the national park was beautiful. We then parked at the entrance to the "Abel Tasman Coastal Track", which actually takes 3-4 days to walk! We just decided upon the 40mins return walk to "Tanian Beach", which winded its way through the forest alongside the beach. It was a really nice walk there and once we arrived we decided to explore the beach, finding some caves. On the walk back Neeley provided me with a music quiz, which I must say was superb - it involved her singing (OH yes what fun!). We then got back into the car after some lunch and headed back to 'Nelson'. After pottering about town we grabbd a bite to eat before heading to the pub to watch the Lions Rugby 2nd Test against the All Blacks.
Sunday - Today we drive to 'Picton' and drop off the car before getting the 3h ferry to 'Wellington' in the North Island.
