Up at 4.30 to take a 6 am flight over this area. It was a small 6 seater propellor job and we had been adivsed to fly early so turbulence was less which it was. A brilliant flight over the vast farming area viewing the irrigation system and Lake Argyle, the Cardboard ranges and the massive million acre cattle stations. Only one person lives on some of these homesteads until muster time when they round the cattle up to ship abroad. Imagine living on your own that far from anybody - could be appealling sometimes!! On over the Bungle Bungles part of the Purnululu National Park. Once again some more unique Australian rock formations. They were dome shaped and looked like behives with the stripes in the rocks - hopefully the photos will be good. Next the diamond mines and numerous gorges and back to Kununurra by 9 am.
Later in the morning we travelled by boat from Lake Argyle dam along the upper Ord River but because of the dams either end is called Lake Kununurra. Plenty of wildlife to be seen and traveling along the bottom of gorges was pretty spectacular. We pulled up for afternoon tea in the bush. They had it all sorted - scones, muffins tea and coffee - very civilised. Yet another sunset to be seen and they all think their's is the best. We haven't decided yet.
By now it was almost dark and with all the bats leaving the trees it was quite spookey. Thankfully our campsite was on the lake so we were able to be dropped off at our door.
Tomorrow we are heading into the Northern Territory where the roadtrains get worse.
