We are now in the "Top End" as they call it and Kakadu National Park. We did call in at Edith Falls on the way, which is in Katherine but will see more there on the way back down.
Kakadu covers 20000 sq kms and a world heritage area. No population listed but flies 3 million hence the net face masks. The area is jointly managed by the Aboriginals and Government and sells no takeaway alcohol.
It is so diverse but that's Australia. There are sandy beaches along the river ( caused by cyclones), tidal flats, elevated rocky creeks with waterfalls, rainforests and massive escarpments.
We decided once again to do the scenic flight and river cruise. The flight was definitely the best way to view this area as we could not possibly of seen it's beauty from the ground. Unfortunately it was early morning and hazey so the phots don't do it justice.
With an aboriginal guide on the river cruise we learnt about their bush tucker, medicines and hunting techniques. He could certainly throw a spear and spin a yarn!!
Visited Ubirr which has one of the areas where you can view Aboriginal rock art which dates back from 2000 to 25000 years. After climbing an escarpment to view the wetlands below we were knackered.
Back to the van, shoved the snags and steak on the barbie and got the beer and wine out. We enjoyed eating and drinking whilst watching yet another sunset.
They say you should 'feel the land' and that you certainly can.
