This morning we left Dunedin behind and headed for Curio Bay near Riverton.
Our first stop was Nugget Point, where there are several rocks jutting out from the ocean that are supposed to resemble gold nuggets. Although we couldn't see the resemblance ourselves, the views were pretty good. Then it was a short drive around to a beach where we came face to face with a few sea lions - bloody great fat ones! Next it was on to Lake Wilkie where we did a very short walk around the lake, while our driver told us about the various trees, flowers and shrubs that were around. Our final stop before the hostel was at McClean Waterfalls. We have seen quite a few waterfalls now, but this was one of the better ones as it was multi-layered and pretty powerful.
Once we arrived in Curio Bay, we found that there was only one other building anywhere near us, as it was really out in the middle of nowhere. The waves were pretty powerful along the beach and we walked around to try to see some more yellow-eyed penguins. This time they were much closer, but the little b*****s kept disappearing into the shrubs every time we tried to get a photo of them!!
After we had all been out so long that we were all freezing, we headed back to our lodgings for the night for some food and to while away the hours with our fellow passengers on this leg of the trip.
