Set off from Lagos with our normal northerly wind and as soon as we out the sails up it switched to southerly and then to westerly. Stopped in Portimao to drop off Jim who is taking the car Sue hired back to the airport. Jim has been aboard for 3 weeks and I will miss his excellent company and sailing support. Having dropped Jim off we put the sails up and headed east to Albuferia. Initially we had 14 knots from the west but that soon built up to 20
Knots and I was thinking about a reef. The wind then went away completely and switched to north as it came back. We took advantage of the lull to have lunch. After lunch it came back from the north west eventually getting to over 20 knots. The wind is strange here it builds up in the afternoon but instead of onshore as you would expect is blowing offshore. Maybe it is being sucked to Africa? Answers great fully received.

Marianne Hi Peter - according to the map below it looks as though you are being sucked towards the Caribbean and are no where near the Algarve
