Interlaken is the popular spot to base yourself for all sorts of mountain activities in the Jungfrau region of Switzerland. The town is situated between two lakes and surrounded by dramatic mountain scape.
From Interlaken we took a day trip to the Swiss capital of Bern, which is only an hour away and is more like a quaint town than a bustling capital city. We also popped into a town near Interlaken called Spiez, situated on the other side of the lake, for lunch with a view. Everyone in the nation appears to be quite "well off" and the fact that it has a higher average wage than other European countries is clearly evident. It's the only country where we did not see a single beggar on the street.
There are dozens of fantastic hikes to do in the Jungfrau region and if it weren't for Switzerland's ridiculous prices we probably would have stayed in the area longer. In short, the scenery is absolutely stunning and when hiking there on a nice day, as we were, it's hard to imagine a more impressive looking place. Photos don't do it justice.
