We found Thessaloniki to be more of a means to an end, we had about half a day to explore the town and feel like we saw everything we wanted to see in that time. The town is interesting as it was a mix of the old town portion on the hill and the new town portion on the flats all the way to the water where many bars and cafes were filled with partiers regardless of the bad weather. Trikala was our first little European town and it lived up to all of our expectations. The strange thing about Trikala is that it has a main street full of cafés absolutely packed with people (so much so that we thought there must have been an event on) but none of the cafés serve food. It was an absolute pleasure arriving in Europe and walking through the little cobble stone streets of Athens. The food is awesome, as expected, with yiros and sweet shops on every corner. Huge servings of yiros with chips can be as cheap as about $3 or $4 and Greek coffee goes for $1.50.
