Summer is now well and truly ramping up in Europe. There seems to be a public holiday once per week, accommodation prices are rising and the weather is warming. We didn't expect at any point in Europe for the heat to pose a problem, particularly after 40 degree days in Thailand, Europe would be a breeze, but for the first time since Asia we found ourselves uncomfortably hot, in Luxembourg. Perhaps Europe's mild weather has softened us, but the forecasted temperatures around 30 degrees felt like an oven. Nevertheless, we soldiered on to make the most of Luxembourg.
The capital, Luxembourg City, is a beautiful place and curiously is completely layered. There are bridges, fortifications, walls and ramps at different elevations all over the place. Walking from point A to point B on a map is less straight forward there than anywhere else we've been.
We took a day trip to a couple of the smaller towns aswell, one in particular, Echternach, was holding their annual Catholic dancing procession. To sum up the procession, once we arrived, we couldn't get out of there quickly enough. Picture repetitive, irritating marching band music with hundreds of rows of glum looking people slowly shuffling along the street. Fortunately, the town of Vianden was holding no such festival and was a charming, quiet, town nestled in the hills to stroll around in. Finding our way back to Luxembourg City on that day proved challenging as one of the key rail lines was down due to maintenance. There were detours, connection buses and delays aplenty, but even with the detours and the heat we still managed to enjoy ourselves in Luxembourg.
