Should I explain that we are really in Palamut but it won't show up on the google map, it's west of Datca.
We arrived back in Bodrum the night before and stayed at a small but smart waterfront hotel 'Marina Vista'. MB and Ford went to St. Peters castle to see the underwater museum. We had dinner at the restaurant 'Aquarium', a great fish dinner but too many people smoking outside which for us spoilt a nice spot.
Wednesday, today we board Black Pearl and leave early to cruise to Palamut, on our way to Marmaris. We anchor outside the small town harbour of Palamut. The town has several restaurants along the nice rocky beach. We travel back west by the tender about six nautical miles to the historic site of 'Knidos'. This was once a prosperous city in 4th century BC. It is now a large archaeological site, overlooking a small protected harbour.
Knidos was renowned for two things:
Firstly, it's statue of Aphrodite and secondly, the scientist Eudoxos. The statue was one of the first female nude sculptures of this period, and was meant to give good fortune to sea farers. Eudoxos was one of the founding fathers of Greek geometry.
The ruins are extensive with a Greek theatre and several temples. It was great for the boys to experience this before the visit to Ephesus later in the week.
We buy some Groper from the locals for our dinner. As we return to BP we visit a cave in which we can enter in the tender but we can't explore further without our snorkeling gear. All very beautiful.
