I met Mike Parr to go to see his retrospective show at the 'Kunsthalle', in Vienna. The show is very impressive and features prints, video and sculpture. Mike explained during the 2 hours I was with him that the show represents his art practice over some 30 years.
At the Kunsthalle there are quiet a number of other museums, one being the Leopoldo, which has a great show of Austrian artist's, Egon Schiele, from the early part of last century.
Another show in Vienna which had an enormous amount of visitors was on male nudity represented in art historically.
Vienna has a very strong art culture with many galleries and museums and the shows were impressive.
I visited Secession and Belvedere to see Gustav Klimt's work, which were celebrating his 150th birthday.
The contemporary art museum 21er Haus, is a great example of a stand alone contemporary museum.
That night I joined my Harvard friend Al Czipin at the Vienna Antique and Art show in the Royal Palace. It was crowded with lots of very well dressed Viennese sipping champagne.
The next morning I am back to Bilbao, Spain to meet Ged Hart with whom we will drive to Gibraltar to meet Black Pearl and then onto the Canary Islands.
