The Greek Island of Symi is only five nautical miles from Turkey, but we get dropped off from BP in the tender, only a couple of hundred meters from the shore. This is a small island only a couple of kilometers long, it is quiet mountainous rugged and dry.
The main waterfront town is Gialos it is very attractive with a colourful neoclassical Harbour punctuated by a basilica and clock towers. It was once a great ship building island and renowned for sponge diving. Now it is a prime tourist town being so close to Turkey.
Marcus and Nora stayed there and thought it was one of the best Greek Islands.
We walked the town, the boys bought some Greek shirts and sponges. We had lunch at a waterfront restaurant overlooking beautiful turquoise water. On our way back to BP we found an amazing shallow crystal clear calm point to have a swim. Our little excursions into Greek Islands in the tender have proved very successful.
