It is hard to find a place to moor the boat again. It is very windy so we are forced to look for a bay in the sheltered south. Most of the really good bays are full of either large or small cruising bays and yachts. We find a small bay with only one large cruiser, it is called super paradise beach.
Our guide Ardi from Santorini has introduced us to his mates here in Mykonos, Claudio and Yanni. We do a deal with them to provide two Jeep Wranglers with them as drivers and guides. Another great find they were fantastic. They drive us straight to the north end of this rugged, dry island, to a lighthouse high above the high cliff overlooking several islands including the famous Delos. We then visit the main town Mykonos which is very attractive. It is all white with very winding narrow streets, lots of good shops. MB has to visit the Nautical shop
As he loves their shorts and as everything is on sale he buys several colourful pairs for 15 Euros each.
We stay for a drink at 'Zorba's' (this is exactly the spot where Jason Bourne reunites with his girlfriend at the end of 'The Bourne Identity').
We then head off to 'Kalafis', for lunch on the beach. The restaurant is really attractive with large white awnings overlooking the beach, with lots of attractive people parading around. It is very hot.
Our lunches are becoming the same, very repetitive dishes although delicious. MB takes a break from the lunch party to chat to a girl in a white Bikini much to everyone's amusement.
MB and Brad book scuba diving for the following morning, hoping that there is more to see than during the Turkish dive.
Back at 'super paradise', music is at full strength. Luckily it is a small difficult to get to beach, so not too crowded, but there is still a strong party crowd and the music goes on until midnight.
The next day, MB and Brad are picked up and transported to the dive boat. The dive organizers are pretty casual and don't ask to see the dive tickets and most divers seem to be inexperienced.
One man dives with his 9 year old son.
The dive is typical mediterranean, not much to see, the best was a school of Barracuda and quiet a lot of small fish.
We wanted to try somewhere new for lunch so we go to 'paradise beach', which turns out for us, to be awful. It is crowded with many bars with cafeteria type cafes, it appeals to 20 something's who are more into beer and fast food than fine dining. Therefore, we return to 'super paradise beach', for lunch at 'Pinky's'. This is a new well decorated restaurant where the food and wine are great. We then negotiate for sun lounges with umbrellas, to relax on the beach. Super paradise beach used to be a nudist beach and there are a few people still practicing although this is now more a family beach. One nude man entertains the crowd by parading 'super large donger' to the beach crowd.
That night we are booked into supposedly one of the best restaurants on Mykonos,'Soleymare'. It is two bays away from BP at ' Kalo Livadi'. We are a but surprised when we arrive to find loud disco music playing and a young crowd having happy hour. Hardly anyone is eating although it is 9 pm. After asking for the music to be turned down so we could talk and hear, we have dinner which is nice but not as fantastic as we expected from it's reports.
Our opinion of Mykonos is that it hard to understand why it has such a global mystique and high rating, but as one of our guides said " Greeks think they live in paradise".
