We are ever so slightly hung over from our drinking and dancing the night before. Today is Nicky's birthday. She loves the smarties, bracelets and dress we have bought her. Happy 25th Nicky!
Before we leave Korcula, we need to pick up the birthday cake we have ordered. We are pulled up in the tender by the marine police for speeding. They say it is a 4 nautical mile zone, however, everyone is flying along faster than 4 nautical miles an hour, the area we are in when stopped has no speed limit sign. They say the fine can be between 1000-5000 kuna. We plead innocent but fine us the amount of 1000 kuna and subject us to a lot of bureaucratic paperwork including wanting Paul's fathers name. What a waste of time!
It is a 2.5 hour cruise to the Island 'Lastovo'. Until 1998 foreigners were not allowed to visit here because of the secret Naval base, with submarine silo's.
What a beautiful place, with an uncrowded bay near the little populated town 'Ubli'. We visit the submarine silo's in the tender. After lunch the girls go for a walk, while Garnaut goes to the pub, and MB and Bernie ride the bikes to the town of Lastovo. The town is 12 kms, 6 kms of which is uphill and 6 kms downhill. The cyclists arrive exhausted, but the town is stunning, built in an amphitheater of hills. The main church dates back to the 12th Century. There are interesting chimneys on a lot of the houses in the town.
Back on board for Nicky's birthday party. It is a great night with lots of eating and drinking, followed by several hours of dancing. JB is disc-jockey. For Nicky she plays 'Waka Waka' (This is Africa), by Shakira. Nielsy leads a Conga around the boat. Garnaut insists on Zorba the Greek for the men and Arva Nagila for the girls. It is a wild exhausting night. Paul and Nicky catch some mackerel of the back of the boat to end a perfect evening.
