Whitsunday Islands and Airlie Beach (15.08.2012): Nothing better to wake you up than a morning snorkel. We were in the water by 7:30, perhaps our last ever look at the Great Barrier Reef (though I hope not). We snorkelled at a place called Laneford Spit which is notorious for having giant turtles. We managed to see five. It was amazing. I swam alongside one for ages. They are magical. I felt like I was in Finding Nemo!
We were back on board an hour later for the sail back to Airlie Beach. What a fantastic trip. We sure will miss this boat and the people we have met.
We were back in Airlie just before midday and headed straight for the lagoon where I went for a swim and we had a nice big laze. Unfortunately we are back at the Base Hostel that we stayed at the first night. It is the cheapest so we just have to deal with it for one more night. We are in a nicer room this time with nicer people too so all is not so bad even if we do have boat blues. We are now heading out to meet everyone off the boat for a wee post sailing goodbye drink on dry land.
