This weekend was very exciting for all of us! On Friday Layla stayed with Darren, Rachelle, Claudius, and Milly and we picked her up and had a bbq together. We decided that Saturday would be a good day to go squid and crab fishing in Port Broughton.
We left our house in Clare at 9:00 and got to Port Broughton at 10:00. After a smooth and fast ride out of the bay we dropped anchor and started casting our lines for squid and dropping the net for crab. After getting frustrated with casting, Layla took over the crab net. A few got away initially but after she got the hang of it, she was able to catch 15 blue crab in her net. Toward the end of our time on the water, Layla pulled up a really heavy load of crab only to discover it wasn't crab at all...it was a Port Jackson SHARK! We took some pictures and released it as apparently they don't taste very good.
While Darren and Claudius went snorkelling, Leanne and Layla went out on the boat one more time and while they were out, they saw a mama dolphin and her baby. We came in and Layla wanted to snorkel at the beach. After walking out in the shallow water for a long time, Darren got bit by a crab and decided to walk back in...we had enough. We went to Rachelle's house that night and ate all of our catch...mmm.
On Sunday we drove out to Mintaro for a Stump Burger at the Magpie and Stump pub. It was delish! We were so full! We also went to look at Martindale Manor. It was very beautfil and starting to get hot so we decided to head home. Looking forward to more adventures next weekend.
