Monday, July 7:
We awoke to a very cold morning and decided that this would be the day that we made the greatest distance. We left Alice Springs, stopped at Macca's for a coffee and hit the pavement. Luckily, the speed limit is undeclared in NT and where there is a speed limit it is 130 km/h! The little Astra has been running super and we made some really good time on our way to Daly Waters, the historic and iconic outback pub. We stopped on our way at the Devil's Marbles, where the Aboriginals say the Rainbow Serpent laid her eggs. We climbed around in the sun for a bit and then it was on our way to Daly Waters. We had dinner at the pub which was super busy and then headed back to our tent in a parking lot across the street. We were awoken at 11:00 pm to some horrible karaoke from the crazy lady next door who continued to sing and shout profanities until 2:00. It was a night to remember for all of the wrong reasons. The best part was the next morning talking with fellow campers about our night and watching the Bogan Queen speed away in her beat-up ute…likely still drunk.
