Hello!
So i made notes this time since my last blog so i can actually remember what we did each day... Genius i know!
Well friday the 14th we stayed in all day watching films because the weather wasn't that nice... thats it.
Saturday 15th i got a phonecall from a man called Chao really early asking if i wanted to work for his estate agents where i would be ringing people up on a sim card that he gives me from the flat and asking if the people are still interested in buying a house, if so what was their budget. He didn't tell me much over the phone but we arranged to meet at his office in North Sydney the next day.
We then decided that it would be a good day out to go to the zoo! So Me, Will, Kat and Lauren went to the zoo which was surprisingly good saying that it was on darling harbour. They had kangaroos, koalas and a huge crocodile that was extremely scary!
We then went to look around the shops in Darling Harbour. There was a t-shirt shop that i found there that i've had my eyes on for a while, turns out the shirts are 3 for $99 so i'm definitely getting some of them before we leave Sydney!
Sunday the girls were seeing Kat's parents as they were in Sydney. This was the first day we haven't seen them for over a month! Seemed really odd, I went over to North Sydney where Chao told me it was 2 hours a day at $15 an hour so it was definitely not worth it. Decided that I should concentrate on the final assessment the next day and hope i get that job!
I got a bit lost on the way back from North Sydney, got the wrong bus so had to get off just after Harbour Bridge so it was about a 35 minute walk back to the flat but i wasn't that fussed because it was a fun walk as i had my ipod.
Monday i woke up early for my final assessment at 10 til 12. I was only expecting there to be the 8 people who had got through our interview, turned out they had held interviews the day before ours AND the day after so there were 21 people in total. We started by saying something interesting about ourself so i went for the standard 'I get told I look like Prince Harry a lot' and everyone laughed and called me Harry for the rest of the interview. We then got seperated into groups of 3 where we had a presentation we had to do on a certain subject. Me and two girls had 'Are athletes nowadays overpaid?'. I thought of the idea to draw a stickman in the middle with Nike's on with a tennis racquet and stuff which worked out quite well as no one else in the other groups made it presentable they purely just wrote lists talking about pros and cons. I made sure to mention that i drew the amazing stickman in the middle. I think me getting through that stage may have had something to do with that because the other two girls didn't get through to the role play.
The role play was the same as in the first interview where we were put into a room and had to read the script. They then seperated the group into 10 and 11. The other 10 going into a seperate room. We kind of knew at that point that it was either good news or bad news. As the other group were leaving their room one looked into our room and gave us a big thumbs up as if to say well done guys!! We went crazy.
We went to lunch and then started immediately after that! I made a few phonecalls with a girl called Amanda who was very nice.
After work I went back to the flat where we just relaxed for the night.
Tuesday i woke up and went to the girls whilst Will went to an interview for a job after quitting his other one after one day. We decided to go to the hard rock cafe that night to celebrate me getting the job (which i started on wednesday) and because the girls were leaving for Melbourne on the Thursday morning.
I got a texan pulled pork burger which was absolutely incredible like Hard Rock Cafe always is. The best bit is definitely the music: They played loads of Kiss, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Guns N Roses so we had a good night relaxing there after finishing our meal.
We then head off to the girls flat to watch a new film called Lone Survivor which Will had downloaded onto his laptop (really really good film)
On the way back we were waiting at the traffic lights when this boy who looked no older than 12 ran across the road right infront of cars whilst his friend shouted run from the other side of the road. At the time we thought he was just crossing the road but we found out about a minute later that him and his friend had just robbed this Asian girl who chased them across the road but because she was in heels couldn't catch them. I didn't realise what had happened until the girls told me so i started to run after where they'd gone but i could'nt find them anywhere. Was quite annoyed at myself for a while after for not realising what had happened a bit sooner otherwise i could've stopped them.
Wednesday was my first day at work. Went to the post office to get some passport photos in the morning (winning the woman who served me $10 after she asked me for an autograph and i said why because i look like prince harry (she had had the bet with her colleagues around the back)) I started at 2 and worked til 8. The first 4 hours we were being trained on how to work the system and practicing our scripts. We then had two hours on the phones just to warm up not expected to get anyone. I got someone after 45 minutes! $360 woooo! Everyone was impressed haha.
Wednesday night we went to Scary Canarys after a few games of goon pong and flip cup as it was the girls last night before going to melbourne. Had a pretty good night! Big group of us went out (including Alex).
Thursday morning i woke up early to see the girls off at the train station as they go off to Melbourne. Was quite weird saying goodbye but we're hoping to meet up with them up the East Coast which should be fun.
Then went to work where i had a pretty bad first few hours not getting one person to sign up. I eventually got someone for $240 dollars which was good! I was given a goal of getting two that day so i stepped it up a bit. My last call before Lunch i hit the jackpot. I was pitching to this woman called Margosia that signing up for $40 a month would be really generous and she seemed fine to do so. When we got to the final part of the confirmation where i type in how much she wants to donate she said $200 a month rather than $40... I was in shock! That is a $2400 yearly donation which is loads!! My team leader Andy heard me on the phone and started to go crazy telling all the other leaders and managers about it whilst i typed in the card details. After she'd finished telling me she said 'actually can i lower that to $100 a month instead, it's on my husbands card not mine i don't want him to go crazy'. $1200 is still more than anyone got that day! And that's out of literally everyone fundraising in the office which is about 75 people!! Crazy!!! I got lots of pats on the back and congratulations. I was supposed to be raising $800 a day and i just got way more than that in one donation... CRAZY
So yeah, i've just got in from work, enjoying it when i'm actually earning some money for these charities but when i'm sat there for hours without getting anything I'm already feeling the pressure as my probation is only 3 weeks so if i'm not at the same level as the others by then i will be fired (which is what happened to one of my friends). Everyone who has heard me in calls has said that i will be absolutely fine because i have a knack for it but i'm not so sure...
Sorry for the HUGE blog, decided that when we actually do the travelling it'll be a better idea to buy a journal to write in, but whilst we're in Sydney i'll just post on this every so often.
PEACE x
