Hey everyone (Mum and Dad)!
Just thought I'd make a little blog that I'd update every so often for people (most probably just my family) to read so they know what Me and Will are up to and also then we won't have to repeat it thousands of times!
So Tuesday we arrived in Sydney at about 8:30 in the morning, very jet-lagged and extremely hungry from having not much to eat on the plane other than tasteless omelette and 'beef & mushroom porridge'... So what was the first thing we did once we'd dropped our bags off? Went to McDonalds of course!
After getting some breakfast from Maccy's we decided to explore a bit so we headed towards Darling Harbour where we found a lovely secluded dock which is right next to a set of apartments with yachts and boats outside that we have been to everyday since.
We got back to the hostel at around 14:00 where we checked into Room 212. It was a room which slept 8 people with an ensuite and a shower which was nice. The people in there we both got on with very well.
There was Pete and Shaun - friends from Newcastle who were very nice, Rachel - a girl from Edinburgh, Adam, a keen photographer that we had met on the shuttle bus from the airport, and then there was Tom from Hampton, who was very pretentious and extremely annoying!
Me and Will both said to ourselves that we shouldn't go to bed until the night as to not mess up our body clocks, any hope of that soon evaporated when we both fell asleep around 4 in the afternoon and woke up at about 4 in the morning. Woops!
The next day we had our talk with the Job Search Australia company, nice and early at 10am where they helped us set up an Australian bank account, our tax file number, superannuation and our sim cards.
I can't really remember the rest of the week up until Thursday other than that we went to the dock everyday and ate lots of rubbish!
Thursday night we went to a club called Ivy; the biggest club in Australia which had 4 floors as well as a pool in the roof. Drinks were quite expensive so we made sure we had plenty of Goon (boxes of wine) before we set off. With the whole dorm (except Tom the pretentious poo) crawling in at 4 in the morning we carried on talking until about 7 in the morning, everyone got on really well.
At about 10 in the morning the Geordie's had to check-out as they were going to fly to Melbourne, hopefully we will be meeting up with them there or somewhere else along our travels. We were then joined later that day by Kim; a 22 year old South Korean guy who had been in the army for 3 years. He doesn't speak much english but we involve him in everything and we get on quite well with him. We were also joined by two other Korean people who slept where the Geordie's were. They are not as nice, they are very rude and selfish when it comes to things like coming in late and sharing the plugs and adaptors.
I fell asleep that night at about 10 after having my first 'Scary Canary steak, sauce, chips, salad and pint' meal for $15. One word to describe that. WOW.
The next day Me and Will had to check out as it had come to the end of our prepaid 4 nights. We tried to get another few nights but the hostel was booked up that Saturday night so unfortunately we had to move to another hostel for that night. (We still went out that night nonetheless!)
After we had checked out a group of 12 of us headed to Coogee Beach, the beach next door to Bondi. I only knew about 7 of the people going but got to know the others really well throughout the day.
A group of us then did the walk from Coogee to Bondi, going passed some lovely views and getting a photo on the way. We got the bus back and went straight for a Scary Canary steak!
After that we all got ready to go out that night. We got ready in our old room (the legendary 212) and went out to a club called Tokiyo which, once again, was quite pricey.
We got back to the hostel at 3:30am and went to bed. The next day we checked back in at Base Hostel and went off to view a flat that we had arranged to see.
It was the most vile thing i have ever seen. 4 bunkbeds squashed into each bedroom, half the living room filled with 3 more bunkbeds seperating themselves with blankets and sheets. It looked like a prison camp!
We then went back to the hostel, had a shower, met the new people in our new room (3 swedish guys, one called Jacob and another called Will... SCARY, a finnish girl and two nice girls from Edinburgh).
And that's the week up to date so far!
I will most probably be doing a blog every 3 or 4 days.
Well this is a lot longer than I thought it would be... Sorry!
