Day 2, Getting Supplies
Despite the time we went to sleep I still woke up pretty early like 4am I don't know why I do that to myself as I'm on holiday. My wife forgot to turn her alarm off in her phone (it's definitely off now) so she got woken up by it at 6am. Woke up feeling so so and hungry so had shower to refresh ourself and went to breakfast buffet.
After breakfast we went to reception to sort the room out with the manager and after back and forth finally got our travel companions into one big family room which is so much better than what they got when we arrived last night (2 separate room non interconnecting with single beds). After they moved room we all then swim in the pool and some Bintang (it's 5 o'clock somewhere they say).
After a lovely refreshing swim we showered, changed and off to hail a taxi for the short ride in taxi (blue bird) to Matahari for some shopping ( foods, drinks, snacks and toiletries) way too hot to walk lol....arrive at our destination and pay our driver the 15,000rp( $1.50) and meet our friends on the steps leading into the shops and retreat into the nice cold aircon.
Our friends were curious as to what our cost of taxi came to so we told them and to their horror they had accidently paid 150,000($15.00) as the notes look pretty similar and can be confusing ... Well one taxi driver was dishonest and grabbed a chance at getting more than required .. Sad but true there are those people out there , lesson learnt.
A full trolley of shopping later and we were done, my friend and I left the wives and kids in the air con and we ventured out the front to browse the stalls set up .. Saw a mini combi van speakers that were Bluetooth etc and bought it after haggling for a bit we got him down to 350,000($35) ... And it sounds great ! Winning and back to the hotel it is .
My friend and I went for a shop and the girls rested with kids, about 100m from the hotel we saw the bike rental and thought we'll hire a bike for a day or two, the rental guy said I need my passport and license so off we go back to the hotel, my friend decided to exchange some money in the hotel and the rate was a bit better (Rp. 9.820) than the Matahari (Rp. 9.750).
After we got the bike we headed to Ketuts 2 and both got some shorts and singlets and ordered more in for work which we will pick up in a few days . Always easy there as its fixed price and he is very helpful .. Even gave us a beer while shopping, Although while we were there we noticed he has the Combi van speakers too , I asked him how much and he says 250,00 ($25) ... Well yes we got scammed at Matahari haha... You win some you lose some ... oh well second lesson learnt and remember next time that Ketut sells anything and even order if we need to)
Upon our return home we thought we would surprise the wives with their favourite Padang food ( my wife craves this all the time ) and when she saw it she was stoked... Woofed it down so fast she had indigestion ! And it didn't disappoint.. Was amazingly tasty mmmmm.
Chilled in the hotel room for a while and took the kids up to the night markets for dinner where we had some more amazing food including delicious grilled chicken. Squid, prawns and rice .. Fries , garlic bread pasta for the kids .
We were all a bit like zombies by this stage a..tiredness + humidity and heat had taken its toll so a short walk back and into bed we flopped!
goodnight world see you in the morning.
