After a long and arduous drive (at all of 40kms, easily the shortest drive of our holidays), we arrived basically where we left, just on the other side of the cape (that is, we basically drove around a mountain range from the eastern side to the western side).
What can I say about Cape Range. It is basically a national park with camp grounds. Although really well set out, there is no water nor power, no TV, phone or Internet connection. A simple toilet is our only luxury. But it is awesome! We had booked in for 4 days, but we could easily have stayed longer.
Let me tell you why.
The beaches. Unbelievable. Continuous beaches of pure white sand, warm crystal clear water filled with all sorts of marine life including sting rays and turtles. Simply stunning.
Snorkelling. Unbelievable. One of the signature attractions of the park is a bay aptly named as Turquoise Bay. As well as it being one of the prettiest bays you will hope to find, it is also home to drift snorkelling. Basically, the water current runs parallel to the beach, so to snorkel, all you need to do is jump in at one end, and let the water take you to the other end whilst you simply float over coral reefs. The boys loved the thousands of dart fish swimming around, only centimetres from the shore.
The fishing. Although a marine park there are certain areas you can fish, and the fishing is great. Whilst there, we were lucky enough to catch some (and lose some....although we won't talk about that, bec is still a bit upset, especially as she has now lost two monster fishes) fish includving travellies, darts and bream.
And the final piece to the puzzle. The people. We were lucky enough to stay at the camp ground with the best group of people you could hope to meet. From the camp host (who's main job was to organised beer o'clock) to the other travellers who attended. It was a great bunch of people.
And a few other highlights;
- and the cape range UNO champion is..........me! (with cooper having a few nudie runs to do. Seems he is in a bit of a rut at the moment, poor thing)
- and the putt putt golf champion is.........me! (Depending on who you speak to, but as I am writing this I am the champion. You see, I believe the winner should be who sinks the longest putt, no matter how fluky, not who sinks the most)
- not really a highlight, but it seems my waterproof camera has bit the dust. Although not sure to be sure, believe cause may have something to do with it filling up with water on our first snorkel. (Thus you will just have to believe me when I say the fish and coral were excellent).
